    Are you an experienced communications professional with a strong understanding of the global media landscape and a knack for storytelling? Are you an exceptional writer with a passion for learning things? Do you thrive in fast-paced, international environments?

    If so, we'd love to meet you Rakuten is looking for a "Global Communications Manager"to help create a positive environment for business expansion by raising awareness of the Rakuten brand and deepening understanding of the company's mission around the globe.

    Reporting to the Head of Rakuten Group's Global Communications team, you will play a key role in building media relationships, collaborating with various stakeholders to craft strategic communications materials and identifying opportunities to proactively pitch corporate stories to top tier outlets.

    The successful candidate will also have ample opportunity to lead top-tier corporate events, develop digital content for Rakuten Group's corporate channels, support senior executives and more, as they grow their careers in the field.

    Position Details

    Develop and implement corporate communication strategies that promote the Rakuten Group's mission, vision, and business objectives around the globe

    Lead communications for major projects across the Rakuten Group: New business launches, global partnerships, M&A activities and more

    Strengthen and build key relationships with top-tier media outlets, industry influencers, and key strategic partners globally to promote the Rakuten corporate brand and story

    Manage media inquiries and interview requests from top-tier media online, in print and on-camera

    Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities that could impact the company's communication strategy, providing insightful recommendations to the team

    Supervise and coordinate the production of communication materials, including press releases, content for the corporate site, bylined articles, and other promotional materials ensuring they meet the team's high standards of quality

    Review social media copy and blog posts to ensure there are no typos, errors or formatting issues

    Work Environment

    Join a diverse team of over 15 communications professionals spread across Japan, APAC, North America and Europe. The sun never sets on Rakuten's global communications network.

    Mandatory Qualifications:

    4-6 years of experience in a related role (ideally PR, corporate comms or journalism)

    Bachelor's Degree

    Native English speaker

    Tech-savvy PR pro, up on the latest tools and trends of the trade (from PR platforms like Prezly, to analytics tools like Cision, to ChatGPT)

    Strong project manager with experience collaborating across multiple teams on complex announcements, projects or events under pressure
    - Exceptional writer and editor, with a keen understanding of how to create impactful messages for a diverse range of audiences
    - Confident communicator with the ability to cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
    - Global minded: Excited to work in an international environment, across time zones and cultures

    Desired Qualifications:

    Business-level or better Japanese valued

    Existing network of media relations in key markets for Rakuten (Japan/US/APAC/Europe)
