The Technology Service Division (TSD) creates powerful, customer-focused search, recommendation, data science, advertising, marketing, price and inventory optimization solutions to a variety of businesses in commerce, fintech and mobile industries. We design, develop, and deploy high performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems used by millions of Rakuten customers every day. Department Overview
Optimize online and offline advertising and merchandising (price and inventory adjustment) using AI and machine learning, as well as vast and user behavior data collected via Rakuten Group services, in order to contribute to various services including Rakuten ICHIBA.
The Advertisement & Marketing Optimization Section is a diverse cross function team of talents from around the world. Our solutions optimize Rakuten experience and services for billions of consumers, merchants, advertisers, and Rakuten's ecosystem of partners and services, globally. Our specializations range from personalized recommendations to search advertising and targeting and incentives optimization. Leveraging our scale, data, and core machine learning capabilities and algorithms we are driven with our mission to deliver better optimized experiences to the society, online and offline.
Position:
Position Details
We seek a skilled Python developer interested in AI/ML and familiar with additional technologies such as Java, Rust, Kubernetes (k8s), RPC, distributed computing, and Ray. In this role, you will contribute to building scalable distributed data processing systems. Leveraging your expertise, you will contribute to developing and maintaining AOG's platform deployed on Kubernetes and enhancing existing high-availability platforms to handle large datasets.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop distributed systems applications, respond to requests from data scientists and then design, code, test, and release, as well as maintenance of software programs and systems
- Collaborate with the team, and other stakeholders to deliver features with quality and speed
- Take responsibility of the platform/service, monitoring, troubleshooting and bug-fix when needed
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Be proactive in proposing and performing system/processes improvement (e.g. refactoring, adopting appropriate technologies and system architecture)
Mandatory Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Computer Science or in related fields, or equivalent education and experience
With three or more years of proven experience as a Python Developer
Strong proficiency in Python programming language
Familiarity with Kubernetes and hands on experience with developing and deploying Python applications on it
Experience with database systems such as Couchbase, Redis, or Cassandra
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of Java, and SpringBoot is a plus
Knowledge of RPC, and distributed compute is a plus
Knowledge of programming in Rust is a plus
Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus
