Euractiv is seeking a Social Media Editor to join its fast-paced Brussels newsroom and help disseminate our journalism effectively across all social media platforms.
The ideal candidate understands the distinct audiences, formats, and dynamics of each platform and knows how to adapt content strategically.
A genuine interest in EU politics and policy is essential, as is being an engaged consumer of Euractiv's reporting in order to identify, prioritise, and promote key stories effectively across social channels.
Candidates should be available to start as soon as possible.Main Responsibilities
Lead the publication of Euractiv's top stories across social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads, Facebook, Bluesky, Mastodon);
Adapt and tailor content to the specific formats, tone, and audiences of each platform;
Highlight and promote priority stories, ensuring strong visibility and engagement online;
Monitor social media inboxes and engage with / respond to readers, ensuring timely and professional responses;
Track performance metrics across platforms and continuously aiming to optimise reach, engagement, and growth;
Design social visuals (e.g., images, graphics, illustrations) in Canva, occasionally in collaboration with Euractiv's data journalist;
Produce short video clips and engaging reels based on Euractiv's reporting (featuring reporters);
Participate in daily editorial meetings to align on priorities and plan content effectively;
Work closely with the social media team, audience manager, and collaborate with marketing colleagues, reporters, and editors to ensure a strong social media presence and performance;
Contribute to Euractiv's editorial mission of balanced, trustworthy, and high-quality reporting.
Ideal Profile
2–3 years of relevant experience in social media management;
A relevant university degree or equivalent professional qualification/experience;
Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and strong organisational skills;
Knowledge of and interest in EU politics and policies, and familiarity with Euractiv's reporting;
Ability to translate complex political issues into accessible, engaging content tailored to different platforms;
Drive frequent, timely publishing across all social media platforms to optimise visibility, engagement, and audience reach;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English – other languages are a plus;
Experience with video and audio editing is an advantage (Adobe, Ableton, etc.);
Proactive, hands-on mentality with strong attention to detail;
Creative, flexible, and solution-oriented professional;
Team player and supports reporters in strengthening their digital presence;
