    Roles and Responsibilities:

    In the SmartNews business perspectives, you will build appropriate cooperative relationships with relevant ministries(including affiliated organizations), industry associations, and general incorporated associations (NPOs, etc.), and proactively acquire information and lobby from the following three perspectives.

    • Public Policy planning and implementation
      • Stay up-to-date on policy developments
      • Preparation of policy recommendations, reports, etc., and their explanation and negotiation with relevant parties
      • Planning and organizing liaison-related events
    • Obtain information on laws and regulations surrounding SmartNews' business and lobby governments (including legislators)
      • Major laws, regulations, etc. to be covered
        • Privacy Regulation/Personal Information Protection Regulation (Personal Information Protection Commission/Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications)
        • Anti-monopoly/platform regulation of advertising/news/application billing, etc. (Japan Fair Trade Commission/Cabinet Secretariat/Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry)
        • Fake news regulation (LDP/MIC)
        • IPO related (FInancial Service Agency)
        • Start-up Taxation (Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, LDP Inner members)
    • Support for external relations activities of internal stakeholders, including CXO.
      • Support for preparation of materials for lectures by external experts
      • Information input as needed (in cooperation with PR, etc.)

    Requirements

    Required experience/skills:

    • Experience in central government or business firms (including consulting firms and think tanks) where you were involved in the planning, formulation, and operation of policies at the Diet, ministries, etc. (for business firms, consultant in charge; for public offices, at the section manager level or above).
    • Good communication skills and the ability to communicate smoothly with stakeholders in various positions, both internally and externally, and regardless of nationality
    • Ability to work independently (Self-starter)
    • Strong understanding of international affairs, technology industry and information policy
    • Have a strong sense of curiosity about the world and people, and a desire to improve
    • Japanese (native level)
    • English (business level)

    Nice-to-have experience/skills

    • Experience as a member of the Diet, secretary to a Diet member, national public official, or other party involved in policy making (especially experience at the METI, which handles policies related to information and technology, or the Consumer Affairs Agency, which handles policies related to consumer protection)
    • Experience working in the private sector, international organizations, NGOs, or other organizations in policy planning or building relationships with government, local government, or industry groups
    • Experience in preparing and providing opinions on self-regulations or recommendations of industry associations, etc.
    • Experience in policy planning, formulation, and operation in the U.S. or outsourcing and management of the same in a foreign company
    • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to carry out short-term business outputs and medium- to long-term initiatives in parallel and in a timely manner.
