    Responsibilities

  • Provides the following services related to XPSTraining of researchers on XPS machines Consultations with researchers on sample preparation and machine use. Measurement and analysis of data as requested.
  • Provides the following services related to SEM Training of researchers on SEM Consultations with researchers on sample preparation, measurement, and analysis of data Observation of samples as requested by researchers
  • Provides the following services related to FIB/SEM Training of researchers on FIB/SEM Consultations with researchers on sample preparation, milling and imaging.
  • Establishes standard training programs, manuals and protocols for the efficient training and use of the instruments
  • Maintains all relevant equipment and facilities
  • Works with equipment vendors on maintenance, development, and trouble-shooting issues
  • Maintains stocks of consumables
  • Supports the purchase and procurement of equipment based on the needs of researchers, by documenting the specifications of the equipment and by communicating with the manufacturers and vendors, etc.
  • Maintains excellent records regarding research support, equipment maintenance and safety
  • Maintains and expands collaborative relationships with other domestic and international institutes
  • Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Section Leader
  • Qualifications

    (Required)

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in operating and maintaining XPS machines
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in operating and maintaining FIB/SEMs
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in surface science characterization
  • Experience in training and mentoring others
  • Demonstrated capacity for acquiring new skills and staying at the forefront of technology
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Proficiency in problem solving
  • Aptitude for assimilating into the local culture and adapting to a dynamic work environment
  • (Preferred)

  • A Master's degree is preferred
  • Ability to communicate in Japanese is desirable
