- Design, synthesize, and evaluate next-generation electro-catalysts for CO2 conversion to value-added chemicals and for water splitting using chemical and physical synthesis techniques combined with half-cell electrochemical methods, such as rotating disk electrode and H-cell, as well as full-cell electrolyzers
- Perform catalyst structural characterization using conventional analyses such as XRD, BET, XFS, SEM, TEM, as well as the advanced characterization tools such as X-ray absorption and scattering methods
- Work closely with modeling and simulation team in catalyst/electrolyzer system engineering and optimization
- Design, synthesize and test new materials to improve fundamental understanding of the discharge-charge processes for the next-generation batteries
- Prepare reports and oral presentations on project progress
- Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of electrocatalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction and oxygen evolution and reduction reactions
- Knowledge of and experimental expertise in evaluating electrocatalysts using RDE, RRDE, H-cell methods, as well as testing in a full electrolyzer
- Knowledge of and experimental expertise in TEM and synchrotron X-ray based catalyst structure characterization techniques
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with internal team and external sponsors
- Knowledge of synthesis and preparation of structured porous materials such as metal-organic framework and/or porous organic polymers is a plus
- This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, material science, or chemical engineering at the Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application and practical laboratory experience
